Law student attempts to strangle lover

Bengaluru: A 20-year-old law student from a reputed college was arrested for attempting to kill his classmate who happens to be his ex-girlfriend.

The two students of the college in Nagarabhavi area were allegedly in a relationship but broke after the girl felt uncomfortable with his overtly suspicious nature, BM reports.

Unhappy with how things turned, the accused Roshan B Singh started stalking and harassing his 19-year-old former girlfriend and even attempted to strangle her to death for after which the girl filed a complaint against him with the RMC Yard police.

He would stalk her all the way to the college hostel. One day he caught her when she walking to the hostel at Goragunttepalya on Tumakuru Road and attempted to kill her by strangling her.

They were in a relationship for about a month before things went ugly. He blackmailed her and started forcing her to marry him to which she objected.

“Since May this year, he is alleged to have begun stalking her. He stopped her in front of the college and slapped her. When she screamed for help, he kicked her. When she warned him that she would go to the police, he is said to have threatened to commit suicide and leave a death note blaming her,” said a police officer.

The officer added, the stalker continued stalking, snatched her mobile and smashed it.

Only a few days ago, he demanded the victim to hand over her so he could get it repaired, to that she refused and walked away.

“She said no and walked away. He blocked her way. When she screamed for help, he tried to strangle her. He pushed her to the ground,” he said.

The accused was booked under IPC Section 354A (sexual harassment), 307 (attempt to murder), 354D (stalking), 323 (causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 506 (criminal intimidation).
