Law on SC, ST, BC students fee reimbursement shortly

Hyderabad, September 22: The State Government is planning to bring an Act to provide legal right to the SC, ST and BC students to get the tuition fee reimbursement.

The cabinet sub-committee on tuition fee reimbursement met in the Secretariat on Tuesday and discussed the matter.

Speaking to the media persons after the meeting, Minister for Social Welfare, Mr Pilli Subarshchandra Bose, along with the Minister for BC Welfare, Mr Mukesh Goud and the Minister for Health, Mr Danam Nagender, said that the modalities were yet to be worked out in bringing out the social security Act for the benefit of SC, ST and BC students.

He reminded that the Government was presently reimbursing the tuition fee of SC, ST and BC students by issuing GOs. The Act would bring legality to the reimbursement of their tuition fee, he maintained. The legislation would be assuring fee reimbursement to the SC, ST and BC students, whose family income was below Rs one lakh, on saturation mode, he maintained.

He charged the opposition parties with trying to misguide the students and create misconception in the matter of tuition fee reimbursement. “ I am once against reiterating that there is no question of going back on reimbursement of tuition fees of backward students”, he made it clear. Almost all, the arrears of last academic year have been cleared and remaining Rs 250 crores of arrears would be paid by October 10, he added.

Reminding that the main appeal on tuition fee reimbursement was pending in the High Court, the Minister informed that the schedule of the reimbursement of the tuition fee in this academic year would be presented to the court by the Government. The Finance Department has been directed to prepare the schedule. The Government would direct the officials concerned to follow the schedule strictly, he added.
