Hyderabad, December 20: With leaders of various political parties announcing their plans to take up `bus-yatras,’ Inspector General of Police AR Anuradha today said that there would not be major security issues with them as long as the leaders confine themselves to their respective regions.
Briefing mediapersons today, Anuradha said that most of the leaders plan to organise the yatras in their own regions.
“There should not be a problem as long as they move in their respective regions.’’ Anuradha said that they have not taken any decision to shift Vijayawada MP L Rajagopal to Hyderabad in the wake of his supposedly deteriorating health.
Maintaining that there were some stray incidents of violence in different parts of the State today, she said that the police were maintaining restraint in not arresting the protestors.
“There were 10 rail roko incidents in the State with four of them in Kadapa itself, while the rest were at Guntur, East Godavari districts, Anantapur and Kurnool. We have arrested seven persons in these 10 incidents, while we registered cases against other protestors after collecting necessary evidence,’’ she said and informed that there were as many as 1,110 protests of various kinds in the State today.
The IG said that a total of 1.47 lakh people took part in protests comprising 79,000 party workers, 24,000 students and 40,000 various union members.
There were 404 relay hunger strikes, 34 fast-unto-death protests and 86 rasta rokos in the State today.
She also informed that protestors have damaged furniture in Nuzivid RDO office, Tahsildar’s office in Chittor district, Praja Rajyam Party office in Nalgonda. There was property loss due to attacks on BSNL office in Kurnool district, Rajol Market Yard in East Godavari and burning of 12 bikes and one car in Eluru among others, she said.
Responding to a query on the plight of Osmania University Joint Action Committee members, Anuradha said that the four students, who were re-arrested yesterday, continued to be in custody and are yet to get bail.
She summed up that barring few incidents of damaging property at some places in Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra, the security situation in the State was under control.
