Mumbai: Condemning the incident of an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Latur being thrashed by the local goons, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday said it was not an attack on an individual, rather on the police force, adding that such acts won’t be tolerated.
“Have told DG & MoS home to visit Pangaon in Latur. Govt feels that it is not an attack on individual but on force, won’t tolerate such act,” Fadnavis said in a tweet.
ASI Yusuf Sheikh was forced to chant ‘Jai Shivaji’, ‘Jai Maharashtra’ by around 250-300 local goons.
The cop was also paraded around besides being assaulted. The incident reportedly took place on February 19.
The incident apparently took place when two policemen tried to stop the locals from hoisting a ‘saffron flag’ during Shivaji Jayanti festivities in Pangaon town of Latur district.
As many as 15 culprits have been arrested so far in the incident.
Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra legislative council, Dhananjay Munde, will later in the day visit Latur and meet the ASI. (ANI)
