In a fresh crackdown, City police arrested nearly 150 youngsters from the city areas for allegedly creating nuisance by gathering around street corners and organizing bike stunts on city roads on Tuesday night.
The youths were picked up from Etebar Chowk, Mir Alam Mandi, Rein Bazaar and Moghalpura among other areas. All those detained were let off after counseling by the police officials and religious leaders on Wednesday morning.
Last month, the city police launched an “Operation Late Night Roamyo’s” following the death of an Intermediate student ‘Nabeel’ in a ‘friendly street fight’. The operation aimed at restraining youngsters and minors from roaming around the streets in the area and not letting them involved in mischievous activities.
Eight police teams each headed by an Inspector swooped down on groups of youths who were found hanging around at night. A few were caught for moving around in the city on two-wheelers late in the night.
Till now, over 1,000 youngsters have been counseled by city police in the presence of their parents. Additional DCP (South) K. Babu Rao said that they will continue the drive. “Our aim is to keep them away from criminal activities,” he said
