Mumbai, August 17: The song ‘Om namoh sukhadayni is a devotional aarti written by Sanjay Upadhaya and composed by 32-year-old Mayuresh Pai. Besides the two greats.Lata Mangeshkar and Pt Jasrat have sung this song together. Suresh Wadkar is the third singer for the devotional song.
Composer Mayuresh says it was not very difficult to unite the trio. “I had already worked with Didi (Lata Mangeshkar as she is affectionately known) and Suresh Wadkar, who is my guru. So getting them on the board was not difficult,” he said.
Also, Pt Jasraj readily agreed as ‘Aai Tujha Aashirwad’ is his home production, he added.
The movie, directed by Pt Jasraj’s wife and daughter of V Shantaram, Madhura, and produced by her son Sarang Dev, will release on August 20.
Conceding that he is too young to give any music lessons to Lata and Pt Jasraj, Mayuresh said instead he himself sang the song and gave the recorded version to both of them.
He told media “I asked them to just listen to the song and then sing it. Though sung separately, they heard it together after the recording was complete”.
While on one hand, he made the legends “sing” to his tunes, Pai also gave a break to the kin of Pt Jasraj, Pt Jitendra Abhisheki and Vasant Desai.
Mekhala Khadikar, daughter of Pt Jitendra Abhisheki and daughter-in-law of Meena, Lata Mangeshkar’s sister, Ishwari Pandit, Pt Jasraj’s grand daughter and Nachiket, grandson of music composer Vasant Desai have sung together in a movie for the first time.
“There is no need to have big names every time. New talent too should be given a chance,” he said. Another first is a fusion of bhajan and qawaali tried for the first time in Marathi.
“There was a particular situation in which a Hindu is staying with a Muslim family and both are praying at the same time. It has been sung by Suresh Wadkar and Rakesh Pandit of ‘Tu chiz badi hai mast mast’ fame,” he added.
Mayuresh has albums like ‘Antarnad’, and ‘Sadgi’ to his credit in which he worked with Lata Mangeshkar. Also, he along with another music composer Kaushal Inamdar had recently petitioned Shiv Sena chief Balasahebh Thackeray to ask radio channels to play Marathi songs.
