Sangareddy (Tel): The last rites of the Greyhounds commando, killed during an encounter with Naxals in Chhattisgarh, were performed with full state honours at Bidar in Karnataka this afternoon.
Susheel Kumar (32) was killed in an exchange of fire after the personnel of Greyhounds, an anti-Naxal force of the
Telangana Police, yesterday swooped on a camp of Maoists in Bijapur district.
Ten Maoists, including seven women, were killed in the operation carried out jointly by the Telangana and Chhattisgarh Police.
Kumar’s body was airlifted from the encounter site yesterday and brought to Bidar where his last rites were held.
Telangana DGP M Mahender Reddy and other officials attended the last rites and paid tributes to the brave commando.
Kumar originally hailed from Meka Vanampally village in Vikarabad district of Telangana and shifted to Bidar town some years ago.
He joined the police force in 2004.
The slain commando is survived by wife Shashikala and three-year-old daughter Sushma.
