A letter penned by Esther Hart on Titanic, which is believed to be last one written just hours before the ship hit an iceberg, has fetched 119,000 pounds at an auction.
Hart, who was travelling with her husband and daughter, had mentioned in the letter that she was very sick the day before the tragedy and she that she will write as soon as they get there, the Guardian reported.
Andrew Aldridge, from Henry Aldridge and Son Auctioneers in Devizes, asserted that the importance of this legendary item could not be overstated as it was the only known surviving example of its type that was written on that fateful day.
Aldridge added that the letter and envelope were in notable condition with a flawless provenance and they represented a truly unusual opportunity to own the finest example of its genre in existence.
And it was quite simply the jewel in the crown of Titanic manuscript ephemera, he further added. (ANI)
