‘Lashkar gets new chief, new HQ’

New Delhi, August 13: Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba has got a new chief and even a new address, according to intelligence agencies.

Intelligence agencies told that the group has named Mohammad Iftikar as its new chief after the arrest of Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi following the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

Iftikar has replaced Lakhvi as the Lashkar’s commander. Iftikar is said to be a close associate of Jamaat-ud-Dawa chief and 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed.

Intelligence agencies said Iftikar was working with Saeed on the Lashkar’s new terror plans. Saeed was lying low after being granted bail by the Lahore High Court.

After having to close its Muzaffarabad establishment following the pressure building on it in the wake of the 26/11 attacks, the Lashkar has moved to its new headquarters. The group is functioning from Jaffrabad in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Intelligence agencies said the new headquarters was based in a two-storey building and was functioning very secretively. Only six members formed the Lashkar’s core group at present and all decisions were taken by them. The group was being closely monitored by Pakistan’s ISI.
