A criminal court of Jeddah has sentenced two women to a 10-day jail term and 20 lashes for exchanging profanities on WhatsApp.
One of the women had filed a complaint against her cousin accusing her of malign. The exchange was shown in the court. The judge issued the sentence as a deterrent against misconduct and the slicing off the families’ ties.
Attempts to reconcile the women, however, not make the grade. The women also raised objections to the ruling and demanded an appeal.
They will be given 30 days to present their objections to the court, after which their right to appeal will be annuled and the ruling will stand.
