Sydney, Dec.09 : Former West Indies batting great Brian Lara has backed all-rounder Jason Holder for the role of captaincy in all formats, saying that it would be a landmark appointment for the Caribbean cricket.
Lara, who represented West Indies in 131 Tests and 299 ODIs, expressed that Windies should be patient with Holder as the all-rounder has the ability to lead Caribbean cricket to great heights, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.
Referring Graeme Smith’s appointment as South Africa captain for all formats in 2013, the batting maestro also urged the West Indies Cricket Board to support Holder and see whether the board could build something over the next 10 years with him.
West Indies, which are currently ranked the world’s eighth-best Test team, will tour Australia in a three-match series starting on December 10. (ANI)
