Hyderabad, July 22: The standing committee of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) which met here on Wednesday approved sanction of laptops, printers and internet facility to the 150 corporators and five co-opted members of the GHMC.
With a laptop with printer priced in the range of Rs 35,000- 40,000, the largesse is expected to cost the GHMC about Rs 90 lakh.
The panel cleverly decided to call for tenders at zonal level to get over technical hurdles. The panel has powers to sanction only up to Rs 50 lakh. For anything beyond, it has to take the state government’s approval. Interestingly, about half of the corporators cannot operate a computer. But mayor Banda Karthika Reddy said they would be given special training.
All the necessary papers and communication could be emailed to the corporators saving a lot of expenditure on paper and courier charges, reasoned the mayor. The meeting also approved works for improvement of Yousufguda Nala (Rs 34 lakh), Panjagutta Nala (Rs 28.30 lakh), Nagamaiah Kunta Nala (Rs 41.50 lakh) and Banjara Hills Nala (Rs 37.10 lakh).
