Lanka thrash Aussies in Brisbane ODI

An incisive spell of in-swing bowling by Nuwan Kulasekara helped Sri Lanka to thrash Australia by four wickets in the third one-day international played at The Gabba on Friday.

Kulasekara claimed five wickets for 22 runs, while Lasith Malinga claimed three wickets for 14 runs to help Sri Lanka bundle Australia out for 74, one of its lowest scores in one-day internationals.

For Australia, pace bowler Mitchell Starc top scored with an unbeaten 22.

Reply to Australia”s score of 74, Sri Lanka scored 75 for the loss of six wickets. K Perera top scored with an unbeaten 22, while left-arm fast bowler Mitchell Johnson claimed three wickets for 11 runs.

In all, 16 wickets were lost in the day for 149 runs.

At the start of the game, both captains — Michael Clarke and Mahela Jayawardene shared the opinion that the pitch was full of runs at the toss, but they underestimated the impact of Brisbane”s humidity.

Kulasekara was declared man of the match. (ANI)
