Land issue: Contempt proceedings sought against lawyers

Chennai, November 09: About 40 advocates in the Madras High Court today approached the Chief Justice seeking to initiate ‘contempt’ proceedings against some lawyers who allegedly had ‘prevented a Judge from signing an order’ on a petition pertaining to tracts of land in Kaverirajapuram village in Thiruvallur District.

The village has been in news recently following allegations of encroachment of government land by Karnataka High Court Chief Justice P D Dinakaran.

In a representation to Madras High Court Chief Justice, copies of which were sent to the Chief Justice of India and Judges of the Supreme Court, the advocates, including A Mohan Doss and G Rajendran, claimed Justice K Suguna on November 6 had dictated an order on a batch of petitions staking claim to some ‘unclaimed’ land in the village but was ‘virtually’ prevented from signing the order.
