If anyone constructs his house breaking the path of lakes, nalas and kuntas then surely his house will come within the range of those lakes, nalas and kuntas. Same is applied to the colonies build in and around Tolichowki. Brindawan Colony, Nadeem colony and areas surrounding Fatima Masjid and Masjid Sabza besides Hakeempet Nala and Shah Hatim Talab are the areas worst affected by the recent rain. The Friday rain played havoc in these areas of the city. Normal life was disrupted as the water entered into the houses. Muslims had a tough time doing Sahr and Iftar. 18 centimeter rain was recorded during just 8 hours. The entire city had been submerged. People were trying hard to save their belongings.
Local sources revealed that land grabbers for their own interest did plotting on nalas. Today many lakes and nalas of the city have been transformed into colonies. This has not been done in a jiffy and land grabbers alone are not to be blamed, but the inefficiency and corruption of government missionary are also responsible for this. The people who constructed their houses on nalas themselves told that they had to grease the palms of each personnel, right from higher authorities to the IV class employee to ensure construction.
High level investigations are needed to catch the people involved in such scandals and corruption.
When the residents of Brindawan colony, Nadeem colony and those residing around Fatima Masjid and Masjid Sabza, were asked ‘have they informed the public representatives about the problems faced by them?’ They said they will never approach public representatives, because in summer season when they went to a street leader complaining of acute water scarcity, instead of solving the problem, the leader made fun of them. When an elderly person complained to him “we could not take a bath since 8 days due to scarcity of water’ the leader making fun of us said laughingly ‘Be thankful that you don’t get water to take a bath, while here we don’t even have water for taharat also”.
