Land Acquisition Bill row: Congress acted in favour of private companies, says BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday alleged that the Congress had introduced the Land Bill against the farmers in favour of private companies and said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government is committed to safeguard farmers’ interests.

“On the issue of farmers, I would like to say that the political party which kept the British time rule of Land Acquisition for more than 125 years and the draconian clause against the farmers in favour of private companies was introduced in 1984 when Smt. Indira Gandhi was the prime minister,” BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi told ANI.

“So, those who has misused it for more than 30 years and not only for the interest of the companies but interest for their own family and if they tried to form an act in the last few months and on the basis of that they try to become the champions of the cause of farmers,” he added.

Trivedi further said the serious problems of farmers have been addressed in the government’s bill.

The BJP’s reaction came a day before the massive Congress rally to be held at the Ramlila Ground here.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi and party vice-president Rahul Gandhi will address a ‘Kisan Rally’ here on Sunday during which they are expected to target the BJP -led government at the Centre over the Land Acquisition Bill.
