Lalu playing religion card to cajole Muslims

Speaking over the latest Shahrukh Khan controversy following his alleged brawl with MCA officials inside the Wankhede stadium, RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav claimed that the actor was targeted because he is a Muslim. He said “Shahrukh Khan was recently insulted. It happened because he is a Muslim and then all sorts of allegations were levelled against him, apart from making the police to humiliate him’. Yadav even demanded that the tournament should be scrapped altogether.

Lalu Prasad told this to the reporters outside Parliament House when asked to react on the spat between Shahrukh Khan and Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) officials and other controversies surrounding the game.

It must be recalled that the Mumbai Cricket Association on Friday banned Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan from entering the Wankhede Stadium for five years for misbehaving with its officials and violating its rules.

The “unanimous” decision was taken at the MCA Managing Committee meeting called to discuss action on Khan who was involved in a skirmish with the security and officials of the association after KKR’s victory over Mumbai Indians on Wednesday night.

Minority pampering measures taken up by the RJD chief are seen as a political gimmick. Muslims are seen as a crucial vote bank by the politicians and many politicians make the right noises to court the community. Lalu Prasad was chief minister for years, backed mainly by the Yadav caste and the Muslim vote. He is again trying to cajole gullible Muslims by playing religion cards deriving political mileage out of Shahrukh Khan controversy.
