In the backdrop of the recent brutal gangrape in Delhi, RJD supremo Lalu Prasad today demanded capital punishment for rapists.
It was a brutal act. Our country’s law does not provide enough punishment for rapists … it is a maximum ofseven years … I say that rapists should be hanged,” Prasad told a conference of the FICCI Ladies’ Organisation here.
He said that it was not time to sit and discuss how to tackle the issue, but to take proactive steps.
Hailing the rape victim as ‘a brave daughter of the nation’, he asked women to raise their voices.
In December last year, a 21-year old girl was gang raped in a running bus in Delhi. She later died in a Singapore
hospital.
