Lalit Modi drops multi-million civil suit against Chris Cairns

Johannesburg : Former Indian Premier League (IPL) commissioner Lalit Modi has decided to drop a multi-million civil law suit against Chris Cairns in connection with a match-fixing scandal.

Modi, who had lost to Cairns in a 2012 court battle after the administrator was sued by the Kiwi player for claiming that he was involved in match-fixing in the IPL, was seeking to recoup 2.13 million USD, Sport24 reported.

However, it has been reported that Modi had ‘given up trying to claw back costs.’

Meanwhile, the former New Zealand star declined to the comment and said that UK solicitor Rhory Robertson confirmed a Notice of Discontinuance had been filed by Modi to halt proceedings.

Modi had accused Cairns, who had represented his nation in 62 Tests and 215 ODIs, of match-fixing while he was playing for the Chandigarh Lions in the now defunct Indian Cricket League in 2008. (ANI)
