The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday criticised the Congress for coming up with a baseless issue over former IPL boss Lalit Modi’s alleged job offer to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj’s husband, Swaraj Kaushal, saying it had been done on a personal capacity.
“Regarding all the allegations, an email is sent on personal capacity to a professional appointee who is lawyer in this case which is Swaraj Kaushal and he’s not even accepted it. If this is the Congress’s idea of impropriety then they need to reflect on all cases that happen everyday in the country,” said Kohli.
“Very routinely people are requested to be directors, lawyers, advocates. The Congress Party has run out of ideas and is desperately clutching at straws,” he added.
He further said that the BJP is only interested in the 12 allegations against Lalit Modi which is going to be the focus in the case.
“This issue has come to the notice though a media channel but the important question is that this is between two individuals. As far as the BJP is concerned we are clearly not interested in Lalit Modi’s tweets. We are only interested in the 12 allegations which is against Lalit Modi and the Prime Minister has already said that this is going to be the focus,” he said.
According to reports, Lalit Modi had asked Swaraj Kaushal to serve as his back-up on the board of one of his companies. (ANI)
