Gulbarga: Noted Muslim leader and former Minister of Karnataka, Mr. Qamarul Islam who had passed away in Bangalore two days back was buried in Gulbarga in the presence of lakhs of mourners.
His funeral procession started from Jeelan and passed through City Engineering College of Gulbarga and reached Qualandar Khan Graveyard where he was buried.
The funeral ceremony was attended by CM of Karnataka, Mr. Siddaramaiah, Dr. Khusro Husaini, Mr. R. Roshan Baig, Minister of Karnataka, Mr. K. Rahman Khan, Rajya Sabha MP, Mr. Mallikarjun Kharge, MP and Opposition leader of Congress in Parliament. Mr. Venugopal, General Secretary, AICC, Mr. Rahim Khan, Mr. Ahmed Pasha Qadri (MIM), Mr. Abdul Jabbar and many others.
It may be mentioned that Mr. Qamarul Islam was popular among all the sections of society. He was elected as an MLA six times from Gulbarga and once as an MP. During his long political career, he was responsible for many educational developments, especially for minorities. The Muslims lost a great sympathizer in his death.
