Laila cancelled 36 trains

Hyderabad, May 20: The Cyclone Laila has thrown air, train and bus services out of gear in the coastal districts.

The cyclone has forced the South Central Railways to announce the cancellation of 36 trains in coastal areas, while some trains are reported to be running late.

Of the 36 which were cancelled, 31 are passenger trains scheduled to ply on Thursday and Friday.

Krishna, Tirupati, Puri Express, Guntur passenger trains between Rajahmundry and Visakhapatnam were cancelled while a goods train was stopped at Hamsavaram in East Godavari district.

In a cascading effect, the cancellations have delayed other trains on these lines.

Railway officials have directed that the trains do not exceed 60 kilometres per hour as a safety measure as the rains have submerged tracks at many places.
