Lagadapati’s Survey a Grand Flop !!

Hyderabad: The much-hyped election survey conducted by former Congress M P from Vijayawada, Lagadapati Rajagopal, which was taken as ‘correct’ by some of the Congress and TDP leaders, has proved to be a grand flop. The results of the Telangana State Assembly elections, which were out today, clearly indicated this. The survey outcome did not reflect the reality, or even near reality.

Lagadapati originally gave 65 seats to the ruling TRS, on November 20, and he also tweeted to caretaker Minister K T Rama Rao, complimenting him and saying that the TRS is expected to get majority and the figure is likely to be 65. But, even after almost all the exit poll results indicated a clear victory for the TRS, Rajagopal changed his earlier version and announced the survey results, giving 65 for the Praja Front consisting of Congress, TDP, TJS and CPI and only 35 seats to the ruling TRS.

This came as a surprise to many in the political field and particularly the TRS leaders and cadre, who were sure of winning a clear majority and the party forming the Government. The Congress and TDP leaders, however, heaved a sigh of relief with this survey, as it boosted their morale and started contending that the Congress-led front is going to form the Government after the poll results are out. Understandably, the TRS leaders saw something fishy about it and alleged that Lagadapati had changed the survey outcome at the instance of TDP chief and AP Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu. Lagadapati, however, stood his ground saying that the situation had changed after November 20 and his survey is going to be correct.

Now that the poll results have clearly shown that the TRS enjoys the support of the vast majority of the people in the State and hence it secured a clear majority to form the Government on its own, it can be stated that Lagadapati’s survey is nowhere near the factual position, and it is a great flop. His survey also said that 8 to 10 Independents will be winners, but it was also proved wrong. Poor Rajagopal has lost his credibility for election surveys, probably because he yielded to Congress and TDP pressures. Will he stop conducting election Surveys from now on is the Big Question ?
