Vijayawada Congress MP Lagadapati Rajagopal today filed a petition in Delhi High Court seeking direction to Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar to accept his resignation.
In his petition, Rajagopal has stated he submitted his resignation letter to the Speaker on August 2 and the same has not yet been accepted even after 65 days. He also pleaded with the court to direct the Lok Sabha Speaker to accept his resignation. “Since my resignation was not accepted in spite of repeated requests, I have to continue in the post against my wishes”.
Meanwhile, TDP leader Payyavula Keshav has alleged that Lagadapati has been playing a drama. He said Lagadapati filed the petition today intentionally knowing well that courts have festival holidays from today. His petition will not come for hearing for another one month, the TDP leader quipped.
If Lagadapati was sincere on acceptance of his resignation as an MP, he should stage a protest in front of the residence Lok Sabha Speaker, Keshav said. (NSS).
