Lady Doctor stripped for questioning food quality

Bangalore, the world’s second largest IT cluster is regarded as one of the safest cities in the country. But, the flip side of India’s Silicon Valley was yet again out in the open recently when a woman doctor was allegedly stripped by a mob in the presence of the local gram panchayat chief on the city’s outskirts.

Last week, a woman doctor working on the outskirts of Bangalore was allegedly stripped in the presence of the local gram panchayat chief when she allegedly find fault about the poor quality of food being served under mid- day meals scheme.

Later, a departmental query was ordered on the same and the gram panchayat forced her to become the key witness.

But, when she denied having made any official complaint on the quality of food, the gram panchayat chief allegedly directed the villagers to take her to task.

A mob of 100 people on July 7 barged into the government- run health care centre and pulled her out and stripped her. Her assistant was also jostled.

Police have arrested five people whereas more than 20 residents have fled from their homes.

Although she lodged a complaint with the Nelamangala police, and FIR was filed under section 354 of IPC (outraging the modesty of a woman). The police have arrested five people including a woman but no action has been initiated until now.
