New Delhi: A 35-year-old labourer has been arrested for abducting and killing the three-year-old daughter of his Gurgaon-based contractor, police said on Saturday.
The accused, identified as Anwar, hailing from Bihar, was on Saturday produced before a court which remanded him in police custody for five days.
Police said that the accused was arrested from New Delhi Railway Station.
Anwar, who was working in Rajasthan, came to Gurgaon early this month. “Victim’s father, who is a labour contractor, provided a job to the accused and also gave him shelter in his house in Patel Nagar area,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Sumit Kumar told IANS.
On Wednesday night, Anwar took the girl to the Gurgaon bus stand from where they took a bus to Delhi’s Chhawla. It was here he strangulated the girl to death and dumped the body there.
Police formed teams in search of Anwar after one of the neighbours told police that she was last time seen with Anwar.
“We formed two teams in search of the child… one of the team conducted a raid on Anwar’s house in Bihar. The second team was regularly conducting raids in Delhi and the accused was arrested on a tip off provided by his relative in Delhi,” the DCP said.
Police has not denied the possibility that the victim was raped before being killed but officers are waiting for the post mortem report.
“We are waiting for the post mortem report of the victim,” said the DCP.
