Chennai: Two days after the Eicher Motors Ltd signed an agreement with the workers, the plant at Orgadam near here continues to be stricken with the worker’s union opposing fresh conditions of the company, a union leader said.
The worker’s strike that began on September 24 was called off three days later following an agreement with the management.
“The management in a notice to the workers on September 28 said the resumption of operations in the plant will be announced later. The management also said the workers have to sign an undertaking and the wages for the strike period would be deducted,” said R. Sampath, Vice President, Royal Enfield Employees Union told IANS.
He said the conditions are not acceptable. Around 3,000 workers — permanent, temporary, casual labourers, apprentices and others — did not report for duty at the Oragadam plant.
“We have told the management that no undertaking will be signed by the workers,” Sampath added.
