Lucknow: Former Uttar Pradesh top cop Javeed Ahmed (IPS) reportedly wrote a message on a WhatsApp group run by IPS Officers in which he texted “Allah ki marzi. Bura to lagta hai par M hona gunah hai”. The letter ‘M’ is being interpreted as “Muslim”. The message went viral and is widely shared on different social media platforms. However, Javeed Ahmed denied posting the said message in the group.
The message is said to be posted in the group soon after the selection of Rishi Kumar Shukla (IPS) as CBI Chief was announced on Saturday.
Javeed Ahmed is currently serving as DG National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science. He was in the race for the post of CBI chief.
Though the message was later deleted from the group, its screenshot was taken by somebody before it was deleted which went on different social media platforms.
After BJP came to power in the state and Yogi Adityanath became chief minister in 2017, 1984 batch IPS officer Javeed Ahmed was shunted as Director General of Police (DGP) Uttar Pradesh.
Dissenting to the appointment of Rishi Kumar Shukla as new CBI chief, Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, who is part of the selection committee besides Prime Minister Modi and Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, said Javeed Ahmed was more experienced as compared to others.
Based on seniority, integrity and experience in the investigation of anti-corruption cases, Kharge advocated the candidature of Director of National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Sciences S. Javeed Ahmed, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Director General Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar and National Security Guard (NSG) Director General Sudeep Lakhtakia.
As compared to Javeed Ahmed’s experience of 160 months of investigating anti-corruption cases, the newly appointed CBI Director had nil experience in handling such cases, Kharge pointed out.
