Congress MLCs on Tuesday accused Panchayat Raj Minister K Tarakarama Rao of intimidating Members of Legislative Council.
Speaking to media persons at Council’s media point here, Congress MLCs Mohammed Ali Shabbir and Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy alleged that while replying to a question on Telangana martyrs in the Council, KTR used unparliamentary language and threatened, “Eint ka jawaab, pather say dengay (Brick will be replied with a stone). Shabbir Ali said KTR got educated in the US and being the son of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, he is expected to be more cultured. “He is speaking like a roadside rowdy,” he alleged. However, he informed that KTR had withdraw his words after protest from the opposition benches.
Ponguleti advised KTR to learn to speak in a decent manner. Stating that the TRS made impractical promises and its leaders are intimidating the opposition members when they are questioning about the status of their implementation.
Earlier, replying to a question raised by Paturi Sudhakar Reddy during Question Hour in the Legislative Council, Education Minister Jagadeshwar Reddy said that the government was considering to include the life histories of martyrs, poets, artists of Telangana in the curriculum of primary and higher education. He said that the Government of Telangana appointed an expert committee to review and develop the school textbooks in the subjects of Telugu and Social studies. The Expert Committee will take up and decide issue of inclusion of life histories about martyrs, poets and artists of Telangana in the syllabus and text books of primary, upper primary and high schools.
Participating in the debate, Congress MLCs pulled up the government for recognising only 459 matrys. Intervening on the issue Deputy Chief Minister Dr T Rajaiah said that identification of Telangana martyrs was an ongoing process and others martyrs too would be extended financial assistance, as promised by the government.
The Congress MLCs also demanded inclusion of AICC President Sonia Gandhi’s role in formation of Telangana State. (INN)
