Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao today rewarded sanitation worker T Venkataiah of Rajendranagar GHMC circle on being selected for a coveted national award in sanitation. KT Rama Rao personally rewarded Rs 1,11,111 and GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy gave Rs 1 lakh to the sanitation worker on the occasion at Secretariat here. Mayor B Rammohan and deputy mayor Baba Fasiyuddin and officials were present.
The Minister was all praise for Venkataiah for his inspirational work for 16 long years continuously without taking a single day leave. KTR expressed surprise at his continuous work to keep the circle clean and asked other staff of other departments to follow suit. He directed the GHMC officials to make arrangements for him to receive the award in Delhi.
The Centre has selected only two sanitation workers across the nation under Swatch Bharath Mission and Swatch Sarvekshan programs and Venkataiah from Telangana State got this prestigious award. Venkataiah will receive the award from Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Delhi onĀ Aug 6. (NSS)
