Municipal Administration & Urban Development Minister K. Tarakarama Rao on Tuesday launched works to clean Hussainsagar lake.
Speaking on the occasion, KTR said a modern machine has been deployed at a cost of Rs. 8.8 crore to take up cleaning of Hussainsagar lake. He said that the lake would be cleaned to the extent that its water could be used for drinking purpose, if required. He said that the machine would also be used to clean Musi River.
KTR said the drainage water and other pollutants which were entering the Hussainsagar lake have been diverted. He said that the diversion of 99 nalas has been completed and the cleaning of nalas has been taken up at a cost of Rs. 69 crore. He said that the works would be completed before next monsoon. He said that the city needs 10 more water treatment plants.
The minister appealed to the people to go for eco-friendly Ganesh idols and their height should not be more than 20 feet. He said that the de-centralisation of Ganesh immersion would help in overcoming the problem of lake pollution. (INN)
