K’taka HC to hear rape case against Nityananda

Bangalore, December 01: The chargesheet filed by the CID against self-styled godman Swami Nityananda and four of his disciples for alleged rape and unnatural sex will come up for hearing in Karnataka High Court on Wednesday.

A 430-page charge sheet was filed by CID on November 27, named Nityananda, Nitya Bhaktananda, Nitya Sachidananda, Nitya Sadananda and Maa Sachidananda alias Ragini on the basis of two FIRs filed against them.

While Nityananda was charged with rape, unnatural sex, cheating, criminal intimidation and criminal conspiracy, Nitya Bhaktananda was booked for allegedly harbouring an offender and criminal conspiracy.

Nitya Sachidananda, Nitya Sadananda and Ragini were also accused of assisting Nityananda in committing rape and unnatural sex.

According to the chargesheet, a woman devotee had deposed before the CID that she was repeatedly raped by Nityananda at his ashram in Bidadi and other parts of the country.

“From mid June we did get a lot of vital evidences that was after he got bail. First is a victim of rape and she has come to us and have told various instances where she was subjected to rape,” Charan Reddy, DIG, Karnataka CID.

Nityananda landed in a controversy after a purported video footage of him being in a compromising position with an actress was aired on local Tamil channels. He was arrested in Himachal Pradesh on April 21.
