Conducting the first hearing in the case of alleged medical negligence in Mairyam Kauser’s case, the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR) has directed the doctors to submit her medical records by February 10.
Mariyam’s father had submitted a petition to the commission seeking imposition of ban on the doctors of SGITO who were responsible for her serious condition, after surgery.
The three-year-old girl had been operated for a fracture of left elbow. Her family has alleged that she went into coma and is critical even now, due to an overdose of aneasthesia. They also claimed that Mariyam’s weight was not measured before administering aneasthesia, which is mandatory. The doctors kept her parents in the dark about the seriousness of her condition and manipulated the records.
Mariyam was shifted to Dr. Malathi Manipal Hospital later, but even now is in a critical condition. She can blink her eyes, slightly move her limbs and sometimes cry,” said her mother Reshma.
With the help of relatives and friends, the family has spent nearly Rs. 10 lakh for treatment. “We are not seeking compensation. We want the commission to ban the guilty doctors from practicing so that no other child is put to suffering like their laughter,” said Reshma.
The commission had issued notices to the suspended doctors to produce related documents. Since the doctors received the notices late, the chairman of the Commission, Umesh Aradhya has given them time till February 10.
Before coming to any conclusions on further course of action, the commission would seek the opinion of a panel of doctors, also.Courtesy: Karnataka Muslims
