Hyderabad, October 30: As many as 389 Krushi Bank depositors did not turn up to collect their deposits, when the officials of Crime Investigation Department (CID) distributed the cheques during the last 10 days in coordination with liquidators and Metropolitan Legal Services Authority (MLSA).
The schedule announced for the distribution of money to the Krushi depositors ended today and only 489 of the total 878 depositors collected their cheques, said CID Economic Offences Wing Inspector General of Police VSK Kaumudi. “Till now an amount of Rs 8.24 crore was distributed out of the Rs 13.73 crore raised by us by auctioning the properties,” Kaumudi added.
“However, we will hold a review next week to analyse the existing position and a decision will be taken whether to announce a new schedule for the left-over depositors,” he said.
Earlier in the day, 76 cheques and an amount of Rs 1.10 crore were handed over. Anxiousness hit the depositors on the last day of distribution after a suit was filed in High Court on Thursday to issue a stay in the distribution of their money. It raised their fear of not getting the money back but the petition was rejected. More than 70 depositors, including backlog depositors, went back home happily today as their nine year wait ended.
MLSA in-charge secretary, S Rajani said that people might have not turned up due to communication lapses.
“We sent letters to all the depositors to their addresses. But they might have shifted their residence. There are several depositors staying abroad but we issue cheques if they authorise someone to collect it,” Rajini added.
During the last 10 days, cheques ranging from Rs 390 to Rs 1.14 crore were distributed.
