Krishnapatnam Port, one of the largest and fastest growing ports on the East Coast of India, has flagged off the path-breaking direct container shipping service between the Indian Subcontinent and Myanmar that would change the way sea trade has been so far on the East Coast.
KPCL Managing Director C Sasidhar and Director-Liner & Passenger Services Capt S Narula, in the presence of prominent dignitaries at the port, flagged off the Yangon direct service at the Krishnapatnam Port Container Terminal on Friday. The Yangon service is a fortnightly container service operated by The Shipping Corporation of India connecting the Indian Subcontinent with Myanmar.
KPCL will facilitate the fortnightly service to the Port of Yangon, which is about 1,100 nautical miles. The new service, with a 1200 TEUs vessel SCI Kamal, will connect the ports of Chennai-Krishnapatnam-Yangon-Colombo and will enable the trade to reach these destinations quicker and at a reduced cost. Krishnapatnam Port Container Terminal’s (KPCT) global standards and efficient services will help the traders to export clinker, telecom equipment and cars; import pulses, timber and garments.
In line with the Government focus on developing bilateral trade between India and Yangon, Krishnapatnam Port Company Limited (KPCL) has always been at the forefront in deriving strategies and methodologies that would bring various corporates and trade associations from both the countries to connect, partner and do business for mutual benefits. Earlier, KPCL organised a trade meet in Yangon to showcase the business opportunities for mutual trade. KPCL was also the first to hold a trade meet in Abidjan, Ivory Coast that saw a significant increase in export of rice.
