Krishna water: 2 teams to file review pleas

Hyderabad, February 16: The state government will constitute two separate teams comprising irrigation experts and legal experts to file review petition and fight its case before the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal on sharing of Krishna river water. Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has decided to convene an all-party meeting once again and seek their opinions before filing the review petition.

At the all-party meeting on the KWDT verdict here today, Kiran Kumar Reddy made it clear that the interests of the farmers of the Krishna basin will be protected at any cost. He said all suggestions and opinions of the political parties will be taken into consideration and the state government will make all-out efforts to present its case in this regard. The chief minister reportedly admitted that there were certain lapses in presenting the arguments of the state effectively and assured that the government will engage best legal experts and senior lawyers to fight the case.

During the four-hour long meeting, the Opposition parties suggested for filing the review petition before the Tribunal at the earliest. All the parties who spoke at the meeting were unanimous in their opinion to protect the interests of the state.

However, the Opposition parties including TDP, TRS and the Left parties accused the state government for its failure in effectively presenting the arguments before Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal (KWDT) chaired by Justice Brijesh Kumar which resulted in allotment of meagre water to the state.
