Konda couple joins Congress, to campaign against TRS

Hyderabad: Warangal East former MLA Konda Surekha today joined Congress party in the presence of AICC Chief Rahul Gandhi along with her husband Konda Murali here. On this occasion, Rahul Gandhi invited Konda couple by offering party shawl.

Earlier, the Konda couple had a meeting with AICC general secretary Gulam Nabi Azad and joined the Congress party after getting clear assurance on the seats to be allocated to them. State Congress leaders Ponnala Laxmaiah, Mohd Shabbir Ali, Renuka Chowdhary and others were present along with TPCC Chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy.

Speaking to the media later, Konda Surekha said their aim was to bring the Congress party to power by defeating the TRS. She made it clear that they joined Congress party unconditionally. She also alleged that the TRS has launched a vilification campaign against her only to cover up their mistakes. She said she told to Rahul Gandhi that she will strive to ensure victory of the Congress party in five to six constituencies. She also said she would meet Rahul Gandhi again only after bringing the Congress party to power in Telangana State.

Konda Murali alleged that TRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao was giving top priority to the leaders of his community suppressing the BC leaders. “Autocratic rule was going on in Telangana State”, he said and slammed KCR saying that the latter did nothing to the backward and weaker sections. He said they joined the Congress hoping that justice would be done to the people only if Congress party returns to power.

TPCC Chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy said the Congress would be strengthened with Konda couple’s joining the Congress. He said Konda couple joined the Congress party unconditionally. He also said he did not discuss with them on the tickets to be allocated to them. He said they will allocate seats to them only after discussing with the local leaders. He said Surekha will tour the entire State along with the Campaign Committee and campaign for the party.
