Kolkata Metro cheaper than Delhi Metro: AAP

New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday said despite both being metropolitan cities, the Metro train fare in Kolkata is cheaper in comparison to Delhi.

Addressing media persons here, AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj also said that former Delhi Chief Secretary K.K. Sharma was part of the Fare Fixation Committee (FFC) and he had submitted a letter from the government opposing the fare hike to the committee.

“When the opinion of Delhi government is not given importance, what’s the point of having a representative,” Bharadwaj wondered.

The leader added that the fare was being hiked by the central government and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) as per their wish.

Bharadwaj said: “While the fare for travelling the first five km in Delhi Metro is Rs 10, it’s only Rs 5 in Kolkata. Also, though in Delhi Metro the charge for travelling 32 km or more is Rs 50, it’s only Rs 25 for 25 km or more in Kolkata Metro.”

Delhi Metro fares are set to increase for a second time this year from October 10.

The last increase was in May when the minimum fare went up from Rs 8 to Rs 10 and the maximum from Rs 30 to Rs 50.
