Kolkata : India’s star batsman Virat Kohli on Monday named as captain of the ICC’s Team of the World Twenty20, which finished at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday.
West Indies became the first team to win the coveted prize for the second time after defeating England by four wickets in the thrilling finale.
The men’s team, including 12th man, contained four players from England, two players each from India and the West Indies, and one each from Australia, Bangladesh, New Zealand and South Africa.
While Jason Roy, Joe Root, Jos Buttler and David Willey have been selected from England, India’s Kohli and Ashish Nehra were included in the prestigious list.
Andre Russell and Samuel Badree have been chosen from the winning West Indies side, while Australia’s Shane Watson, Mitchell Santner of New Zealand and South Africa’s Quinton de Kock were selected in the team of the tournament.
Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman was picked as the 12th man.
The teams were chosen by a select group of former cricket stars and highly respected commentators who were given the task of picking a balanced side for all conditions on the basis of performances in the tournament. Statistics were used but were not the sole basis for selections. (ANI)
