Telangana Political JAC chairman Prof. Kodandaram has warned the State and Union governments not to play games with the lives of the Singareni workers.
Addressing the Singareni Collieries Contract Workers Union’, which was an affiliated union of IFTU, state conference held at ECE Auditorium in Osmania University here on Sunday, Kodandaram alleged that the number decreased to half its original number due to negligent attitude of governments. Stating that the Singareni workers, who created history by producing record level coal in a year for several times, number decreased from 1.20lakh to Rs.55,000. He lamented that the workers were losing their rights due to contract system. The education and health also important to the workers along with their routine problems, he said, adding that the workers were spending their earnings to their health problems. He asked the present governments to solve the problems of the workers at least now though the earlier governments showed step mother attitude towards Singareni workers.
IFTU national president Sadineni Venkateshwarlu said that they will take up an agitation at Janthar Manthar in New Delhi on August 1 on Singareni workers across the nation. He demanded the State and Central governments to pay HPC salaries to the contract workers stopping negligent attitude towards contract workers in Singareni. He also demanded regularization of contract employees working in Singareni and pay arrears pending from January 2013.
Another IFTU leader M Srinivas said that the Singareni workers’ problems will be solved only with the movements, Singareni leaders MD Rasoddin, Kondapally Shanker, Sathish and representatives from Karnataka, Punjab, Delhi and Hariyana were also present while NCCW State president K Vishwanath presided over the conference.
