Kolkata, April 13: Mayor of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharjee today said he will not re-contest coming civic polls but conceded being a CPI(M) member he has to abide by the order of party.
“No I will not contest this time,” Bhattacharjee told when asked to comment on reports about his possibility of contesting the polls this time.
“Any fight by projecting an individual is wrong. It should be a collective show highlighting KMC’s achievements,” the CPI(M) leader said on the sidelines of a KMC programme at Patuli this evening.
The Mayor should not contest every time, he reiterated.
While conceding he would have to abide by the party’s order, Bhattacharjee said he thought the leadership would not insist on the issue.
