KKR govt acting like a rowdy on movement of foodgrains: JP

Lok Satta Party founder-president and Kukatpally MLA Dr Jaya Prakash Narayan on Thuesday alleged that the State government was acting like as a ‘street rowdy’ by violating the rules set by the Centre in transport of rice.

Speaking the Assembly media point, Dr JP reminded that the Centre had brought about Essential Commodities Act in 1950 by delegating limited powers to the States to control and impose restrictions on movement of rice and paddy to other States. According to a GO issued by the Centre on March 30 last year, the States have been clothed with limited powers to impose restrictions on the movement of pulses, paddy and rice, but they have no powers to restrict the State to State transport, supply and distribution of paddy and rice. The restrictions imposed by the State government in transport of rice and paddy to neighboring States were nothing but violation of rules framed by the Union Government, he alleged.

Dr JP reminded that the State government had recommended to the Centre for increase of Minimum Support Price (MSP) from Rs 1,110 per quintal to Rs 2,100 for paddy. (NSS)
