KJo, SS Rajamouli slam vandalism on ‘Padmavati’ sets

New delhi: The sets of period drama ‘Padmavati’ have been vandalised not once, but twice and now, Karan Johar and SS Rajamouli have come out in support of its director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, slamming the “deeply saddening” incidents.

“It’s deeply saddening to me as a filmmaker, as a human being and as a citizen of our prestigious and wonderful country that we have to kind of endure something like this. My thoughts, my support and all my ideologies are with Sanjay. Every time I read something like this it really saddens me,” the 44-year-old ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ helmer at the trailer launch of ‘ Baahubali 2 – The Conclusion.’

“And I feel like, we on our level, between the Producers’ Guild, we’ve sat down, we’re all in support with Sanjay and his entire cast and crew. I hope adequate measures can be taken that something like this would never happen to a filmmaker again in our land,” he added.

Echoing Karan’s sentiments, Rajamouli said, “I completely agree with Karan on that. Any artist, be it a filmmaker or a musician or a writer or anyone else, should have the freedom to express themselves.”

“We don’t even know what Mr Bhansali is going to present. Even if the film’s content is not in tune with people’s thoughts, he should be able to express his views. Freedom of speech is one of the fundamental rights of this country. Any artist should be able to express their views,” he continued.

Yesterday, the sets of the movie were torched. Bhansali had faced a similar problem in January when members of the Rajput Karni Sena disrupted the shooting in Jaipur and allegedly misbehaved with him.
