The Eturunagaram police here this morning arrested Telangana BJP president G. Kishan Reddy when the party leaders and activists took out padayatra demanding that the TRS government complete all the pending irrigation projects in the State.
As part of the padayatra, the BJP leaders reached Kanthanapally village at 10 am and addressed a public meeting. He assured the people that his party would stand behind the displaced families of Kantanpally project in the district. He demanded that the State government complete construction of the project at the earliest. The BJP leaders took out padayatra from Kantanpalli to Devadula project. After walking for about seven kilometer, Eturunagaram police personnel, led by Mulugu deputy superintendent of Police Raja Mahendra Naik, took Kishan Reddy into custody saying that padayatras in the Naxalite infested Agency area was troublesome and security risk and whisked him away to Eturunagaram police station.
State party leaders Khairatabad MLA Chintala Ramachandra Reddy, former MLAs Ramulu, Rajeshwar Rao, Yendala Laxminarayana, Gujjula Devendar Reddy, Marthineni Dharma Rao, Chandrasekhar Rao, Pasham Venkateshwarlu, Ravu Padma, Ushakiran and others took part in the padayatra.
Commenting on farmers’ suicides in the State, Kishan Reddy said the distressed farmers were taking to extreme step as the government failed to waive off their loans. He said the government was getting the protestors arrested while the Opposition parties were agitating in peaceful and democratic manner. “But we will not relent even if the Opposition leaders are arrested.
