Guntur, March 24: YSR Congress Party leader Ambati Rambabu has asked Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy to resign owning moral responsibility for the ruling party’s dismal performance in the Legislative Council elections.
Addressing media persons here on Wednesday, Mr. Rambabu said Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy could not ensure the victory of the Congress candidate in his native (Chittoor) district, which showed that he was losing grip over the cadre.
‘Sinking ship’
“The Congress is a sinking ship in the State and reviving its fortunes is almost impossible no matter what the Chief Minister does.”
Four Ministers — Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy, D.L. Ravindra Reddy, Md. Ahmedullah and Kanna Lakshminarayana (district in-charge) — camped in Kadapa and tried their best to make their candidate win but in vain.
“They bribed and even kidnapped some of the candidates/voters and entered into a secret understanding with the TDP to thwart the chances of Independents who owed allegiance to the YSR Congress which had not yet come into existence at the nomination stage,” he added.
Goodwill
Mr. Lakshminarayana made all-out efforts to garner the support of the TDP.
All these proved that the fledgling party was already commanding tremendous goodwill. Against this backdrop, it should not be difficult to visualise the fate of the Congress under the stewardship of Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy, Mr. Rambabu added.
