Kiran, DS to meet Telangana Congress MLAs today

Hyderabad, March 14: Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy and APCC president D. Srinivas will hold a crucial meeting with the Telangana Congress MLAs on Monday to persuade the latter to end their boycott of Assembly.

Sources said Congress MLAs deferred their scheduled meeting on Sunday following information that the Chief Minister and APCC chief would interact with them. The party legislators from Telangana had announced their intention to stay away from the House till Saturday.

It is understood that the MLAs may finally relent and attend the rest of the on-going budget session to ensure that the government is not embarrassed. Efforts by Mr. Srinivas to convince them to return to the House went in vain last week, when the MLAs refused to oblige. The MLAs have been keeping away from the Assembly seeking introduction of a Bill on Telangana in Parliament in the ongoing budget session.

It may be recalled that the AICC initially planned to depute a senior leader to hold a meeting with the legislators and convince them to end the boycott. However, due to certain pressing engagements, the central leadership did not draft a senior leader till now.

However, they wanted the Ministers from the Telangana region to visit New Delhi and meet the central leadership including party president Sonia Gandhi and expedite introduction of Bill in Parliament.
