Puducherry: Lt Governor Kiran Bedi on Thursday convened a meeting of various government departments here to take stock of disaster preparedness ahead of the arrival of North East monsoon. She instructed officials of all the departments to be in a state of constant preparedness to deal with contingencies.
As many as 179 relief centres have been set up in areas prone to flooding, an official release said. A detailed action plan has been prepared highlighting the role of Police, Electricity, Revenue, Fire Service, Civil supplies and Consumer Affairs, Social Welfare and Health authorities.
The plan has been prepared on the basis of experience during disasters in the past, it said. The Indian Cost Guard and Disaster Relief Force would also join hands with other departments in rescue efforts during emergency situations.
Toll free numbers, 1070 and 1077, had been set up at the premises of Revenue and Disaster Management department, to respond to any call for help, it added.
