Indore: Kings XI Punjab, under a new captain Glenn Maxwell of Australia, will aim to begin their Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign on a positive note when they take on Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) at the Holkar Stadium here today.
Kings XI would bank heavily upon their strong batting strength including batsmen like David Miller, skipper Glenn Maxwell, Martin Guptill, Eoin Morgan, Hashim Amla, Wriddhiman Saha and Shaun Marsh.
The Punjab-based side, however, dealt with a major blow heading into the IPL when key opener Murali Vijay was ruled out of the tournament due to a wrist injury.
Pacer Ishant Sharma, who went unsold in the IPL auctions held in Bengaluru last month after setting a base price of Rs 2 crores, was named Vijay’s replacement.
Pune Supergiant, on the other hand, will aim to capitalize on their highly impressive start against Mumbai Indians.
Steven Smith, who has replaced Mahendra Singh Dhoni as the Pune captain, began the season in style by smashing an unbeaten 84 to seal a seven wicket win for his team in its IPL opener against Mumbai Indians.
In another clash of the day, Royal Challengers Bangalore would look to put behind the opening defeat and aim for their first win of the season when they lock horns with yet another injury-struck outfit Delhi Daredevils in an IPL match.
