KINDNESS TO SERVANTS

In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful

An-Nawawi records in his book, Riyad us-Saliheen:

Allah said:

Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, and to parents do good, and to relatives, orphans, the needy, the near neighbor, the neighbor farther away, the companion at your side, the traveler, and those whom your right hands possess. Verily, Allah does not love those who are self-deluding and boastful.

Surah An-Nisa 4:36

Ma’rur ibn Suwaid reported: I saw Abu Dharr, RadhiAllahu Anhu, wearing clothes similar to what his servant was wearing. I asked him about it and he told me that he had abused a person during the time of the Messenger of Allah, SallAllahu Alayhi Wa Sallam, and he reproached him about his mother. That person came to the Messenger of Allah, SallAllahu Alayhi Wa Sallam, and mentioned this to him, so the Messenger of Allah, SallAllahu Alayhi Wa Sallam, said:

Verily, you are a person with ignorance in you. Your slaves are your brothers. Allah has placed them in your hand, and he who has his brother under him should feed him with the same food he eats and clothe him with the same clothes he wears, and do not burden him beyond his capacity, and if you burden him then help him.

Abu Huraira, RadhiAllahu Anhu, reported: The Prophet, SallAllahu Alayhi Wa Sallam, said:

When one of your servants brings your meal and you do not sit with him, then at least give him a portion or two because he has prepared it himself.
