Kolkata, May 13: Abhijit Mukherjee, son of Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee was among seven contestants, who were the kin of Congress and Trinamool Congress leaders to taste success in the West Bengal assembly elections.
Abhijit Mukherjee, the Congress candidate from Nalhati in Birbhum district and former SAIL general manager, defeated All India Forward Bloc nominee Dipak Chatterjee by over 15,000 votes.
Union Minister of State for Shipping Mukul Roy’s son Shubhrangshu Roy won on a Trinamool ticket from the Bijpur seat in North 24 Parganas district by over 12,000 votes.
Shubhrangshu was arrested before the elections for allegedly assaulting an official on election duty. He had gone into hiding for some days and was arrested after an election meeting by Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee in the area.
Dibyendu Adhikari, son of Union Minister of State for Rural Development Sisir Adhikari, and TC nominee won from Kanthi South by over 28,000 votes.
